Top 5 Emerging Music Artists from New Mexico
I decided to look into a bunch of artists who are coming into the scene and starting to make a name for themselves. I know there are many peeps out here who are awesome, but I specifically wanted to look at emerging artists. These are people who have been here doing there thing, but relatively unnoticed. If you don't agree with my list, FIGHT ME, or you could just go and write your own blog.
So in this list, my decision was made by how creative the content has been that these folks have been putting out. This means like music videos, pictures, social engagement, things like that. I also divided it up by the type of music so that I have artists from different genres. Lastly, I simply decided based on how much I actually liked what I was hearing. How was the songwriting? Lyrical talent? Vocals? Song structure? I thought of all these things while I was sitting there deciding to be a critic of peoples work. Oh yeah and don't forget this is not a ranked list! The order has nothing to do with being 1st, 2nd or 3rd, etc.. Take a look below.....
BK Beats - Shey Mertz
BK Beats made the list for his skills in electronic music production. Many of his tracks have a sound that are unique to his style and also show a lot of personality with the samples he picks. Currently he is out in California on his grind working under a new label which is Kastle's label, SYMBOLS. Before that he was working hard here in New Mexico with other talent artists like REIGHNBEAU, 1960's Sci-Fi, and Ethnograph under their own collective called Nothng Forevr. Take a listen by clicking the photo and see what BK Beats has got for you to bump in your speakers.
Charles X - Charles

Charles X. What can I say? The dude left the states to pursue his dream of music and he's living it everyday. As some may know, the U.K. and European market are a lot less rigid than here in the states. People are a lot more open to new and different sounds, and the market isn't saturated with big money and giant record companies like the ones who dominate our radio waves. He is a true performer and matches that with his vocals. Check out his music and you won't be sorry.
Lindy Vision - The Sister Trio
I bet you've never heard of this group before! Lindy Vision is a trio of sisters who bring some much needed nostalgic sounds to your ears. If you check out their social pages you can catch them performing across the state in many different venues. This all female crew is a hidden gem in the music scene here. They have new album coming out soon called Jute. I would describe their sound as reminiscent of Blondie, but not a copy. These gals are also talent with the keys, guitar and drums which to me is something to applaud. Not because they are women, but because truly versatile musicians are just not in abundance these days. Saturday Night Riot - John Baird & Robert
Artwork by: Roberto Reyes
This band is one that can cross genre's and has musical talent to back it up. John Baird AKA Chopper Manhattan is the lead vocalist, guitarist, producer, and sound engineer. His cousin Robert Armstrong completes the duo with his rad drum skills. Catch them playing stylized covers, original songs, or just out foolin'. I would say their sound is one that resembles high-desert reggae, hip-hop, and rock music. It's one of those things where you just have to listen and not try and put it in your tiny little genre box. Enjoy!
Lady Uranium - Mauro Woody
If you have ever taken any psychedelics, then I recommend checking out Lady Uranium, but it's also not a requirement. Using her own words, Lady Uranium's music could be described as Desert Witchhaus meets Dreampop. In her music, she incorporates many nature sounds such as owls, foxes, coyotes and more and then blends them with experimental electronic sounds. I chose this artist for her unique take on production and for the fact that I don't think you may have heard of her. Click the photo to hear some of her work.
